We are looking for a Retail Worker!

Job Description

 

We are looking for a competent individual to work in serving customers in our Zoo gift shop this summer. This position is a summer employment position and candidates must hold a SEED voucher received through government programs. 

The ideal candidate will be a hard-working professional able to undertake a variety of office support tasks and work diligently under pressure. This person will be comfortable working with a high degree of attention to detail and discretion as well as incorporating new and effective ways to achieve better results. This person also needs to have some experience with customer service and retail.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer a welcoming greeting to all customers as they enter the store.
    • Initiate conversation; ask open-ended questions to determine customer needs.
    • Accurately answer routine Zoo questions/inquiries in a helpful and courteous manner.  
  • Organize office and gift shop and assist associates in ways that optimize procedures
  • Answer phones and record accurate messages
  • Manage canteen area located in the gift shop
  • Cash management
  • Create and update records ensuring the accuracy and validity of information
  • Monitor level of retail stock, supplies and handle shortages
  • Maintain trusting relationships with suppliers, customers, and colleagues
  • Perform receptionist duties when needed

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Customer and retail experience preferable

We are looking for a Lead Camp Councillor!

Job Description 

We are looking for a competent individual to work in leading our Junior Zoo Camp summer. This position is a summer employment position and candidates must hold a SEED voucher received through government programs. 

Responsibilities 

  • Become familiar with the environmental issues that are both prevalent in our Canadian environment as well as our global environment
  • Learn what Cherry Brook Zoo, as well as other zoos, are doing to combat the increasing loss of both animals and their habitats.
  • Once familiar with the basics they would be expected to assist in setting up a curriculum for children ages 6 to 15 years old.
  • The young people who take part in this week-long camp will teach campers about local, national, and international species after their training.
  • Coordinating hands-on learning experiences with experienced staff members every week for Zoo Camp.

Requirements

  • Child Care Experience 

We have initiated such days as “meet the keeper”, nature hikes, survival skills, animal care, and behind the scenes look at how the zoo works. Students hired would be responsible for maintaining the program as set out, as well as implementing their own skills and ideas. This is a unique opportunity for the students to gain experience and to teach youth concern, respect, and the responsibilities involved in the care of animals. Positive reinforcement is an important aspect of this program and both the camp councilors and the campers will leave with a sense of genuine concern and respect for all animal species.

We are also looking for a Summer Student Zookeeper!

 

Job Description 

We are looking for a competent individual to care for our animals day to day this summer. This position is a summer employment position and candidates must hold a SEED voucher received through government programs. 

Responsibilities 

  • Students hired for this position will be instructed on the basic data on each of the exotic animals housed in the Cherry Brook Zoo.
  • They would learn the animals' taxonomy and their status in the wild.
  • They will become familiar with each animals’ background, medical issues, enclosures requirements, nutritional requirements, preventative medicine practices, animal behaviors, capture and release practices, safety protocols, and policy and procedures as set out by the Zookeeper manual.
  • Training will include food preparation pertaining to each animals’ nutritional requirements.
  • Proper procedures for cleaning and maintain animal enclosures. The various equipment and disinfecting techniques. They will also be involved with veterinary medical practices as well as special procedures as directed by the zoo vet.

Requirements

  • Animal or Zookeeper Experience preferred
