On Friday, May 10th, 2019, the Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums organization (CAZA) made public its findings stemming from an investigation into alleged wrong doing within the Zoo’s animals for feed program.
The CAZA investigation, performed by zoological and animal welfare experts, involved a thorough examination of the Zoo’s policies, programs, and procedures. Allegations of cruel and inhumane treatment of animals were found to be without merit. Further, the CAZA investigation determined that Cherry Brook Zoo was compliant with the prescribed national standards. Recommendations put forth by CAZA regarding program improvements will be implemented as part of the Zoo’s continued evolution towards excellence.
The Board of Trustees of the Cherry Brook Zoo are very pleased with CAZA’s conclusions and to have the Zoo’s procedures and programs validated by its independent, governing body. The Zoo’s management and staff want the citizens of the Greater Saint John area to know that our constant priority has, and will be, the safety and well being of the seventy-five plus animals in our care. That priority will never change.
